He was actually pretty good the first time through. Yes, there was drool, buckets of drool, drool in quantities that seemed improbable from such a small baby.
There was some crying, but the marvels of medical technology (orajel, tylenol) seemed to deal with this. However, the last few days he's had his little fingers in the back of his mouth, and today he napped very poorly. He's persecuting his mother, and when we feel in the back of his mouth we don't feel anything. This is a bad sign, and we foresee many sleepless nights. For now, however, he slumbers, and we are all grateful.
